Travel Through Time in
Berlin with TIMERIDE!
We both recently had the chance to visit the TIMERIDE attraction in central Berlin and we were really surprised that we hadn't gone before! They offer multiple tours, but first, we experienced their brand new “Berlin 1985” VR tour. It’s a 45 minute virtual reality experience that gives you a tour of Berlin, but of course not your standard walking tour. Instead, they use technology to take you back in time and travel on Berlin's streets in historic time periods.
First, they present you a summary of the history of the divided city of Berlin in the 1980’s, as you actually "look through" the Berlin Wall itself!, Then, you’re introduced to 3 real-life Berliners who experienced what life was like in 1985 in both East and West Berlin. This was a crazy time period, when the punk scene was growing in West Berlin and the power of the secret police, the Stasi, was growing in East Berlin. You're able to choose one of the Berliners to be your guide as you start your final journey - a "bus" tour through Berlin in 1985!

The virtual experience was really exciting. We actually felt like we were sitting on a real bus! The seats vibrated as if you were really driving down the streets of Berlin and the virtual reality headset lets you look in any direction you would like.
We can truly recommend the TIMERIDE experience to all of you living in Berlin and those visiting the city as a tourist. The tours are offered in German, Spanish, Italian, French and of course English.

To learn more, go to Timeride.de or just stop by Zimmerstrasse 91, Berlin. They're located barely a 2 minute walk from "Checkpoint Charlie" in the heart of Berlin!

It Was a Successful Meet up!
Just a few days ago, on July 22nd, we had our second in person meet up and you guys did not disappoint. This event was twice as large as our first Berlin meet up with over 16 people attending! It was really exciting to meet all of you for the first time in the flesh. Many of you had been corresponding with us over the years and it was nice to finally put a face to those conversations.

We lucked out with having 2 large tables reserved for us at the Mokum Bar in Prenzaluer Berg and the weather was also perfect for some outdoor beer drinking.

Our only regret is we were not able to spend as much time with each individual person as we would have liked. We'll be honest, when the end of the night came, we realized there was 1 or 2 individuals that we didn't have the chance to sit down with and talk personally, and this really bothers us. We're taking this as a learning experience and we're going to make sure this does not happen again at any future meet ups.

We had such much time with everyone that we completely forgot to get a group picture when everyone was still around (stupid, we know). Luckily, we finally remembered to grab a picture at the end of the night with the few remaining people who stuck it out until the end with us (see above).
Thanks again to everyone who took time out of their day to come hang out with the AGDW podcast crew!

The "Shelf of Fame" Is Now Online
Over the years there has been one consistent part of our podcast and it's all of you! We truly can't put into words how much we appreciate all of your support, which has come in the form of messages, gifts, reviews and even donations. It eventually became clear to Alex and I that we needed a way to properly thank those of you that have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Hence, the "Shelf of Fame."

The shelf is where our most devoted listeners will be memorialized until the end of time. How exactly do you get on the "Shelf?" We can't say, but here are many ways to earn your spot in history!

Check out the shelf here.

We're excited to announce that we'll be hosting our 2nd in person meet up for listeners of the podcast on Friday, July 22nd, from 7-10 PM. The location will be MOKUM bar in Prenzlauer Berg. We'll have tables reserved outside in the fresh summer air. Come and join Alex and I for a few beers and chat about who-knows-what. We'll also have a little game planned and possibly...a prize! We look forward to seeing you there.

NOTE: If you're feeling sick/under the weather, we'd kindly ask that you stay at home this time. We want to avoid ruining everyone's weekend :)

Don't Forget to File Your U.S. Taxes By June 15th
Americans living abroad in Germany still need to file a tax return in the USA, even though they are no longer living there and they don’t actual owe money to the US government. It’s hard enough filing taxes in Germany and we know that also having to file a return in the U.S. can be a pain. But don’t worry, you can file a US tax return easily and stress-free via MyExpatTaxes.com! You can file your return through their website in as little as 15 minutes without missing a single deduction and always feel confident you’ve completed everything, since they include all the forms an expat would need. Taxes for US expats are due on June 15th this year, however you can file a free extension via the MyExpatTaxes software and once they submit the extension to the IRS, you'll then have until October 15 to complete your US taxes.

Also, don't forget that MyExpatTaxes standard package includes the filing of the FBAR as well. You might be asking yourselves, what is a FBAR? The document regarding Foreign Banks and Financial Accounts is something ALL expats that have $10,000 or more in their foreign bank account, at anytime during the year, must fill out and send to the IRS. It sounds like unnecessary extra work, however, there's no need to worry because it will be taken care of for you!
If you haven’t ever filed your US taxes while living abroad, no worries. MyExpatTaxes will help you to complete the IRS tax amnesty program, where you can make up missed years of filing, penalty free. Their Streamlined Procedure is one of the most affordable programs available. Trust me, we know from experience!

We've Reached our 100th Episode!
Believe it or not, we have now been around for 100 episodes! We're a bit shocked ourselves, to be honest. Today we recorded this very special episode, which included a live audience over instagram and a lot of "behind the scenes" stories. We decided this episode would be completely different than our usual fair, and would have special features and a completely different theme. Over the past 2 years, our listeners have made it known they enjoy hearing about the production of the podcast and any personal stories related to the work that goes into making the show. This episode was the perfect opportunity to make this the focus of an episode.

We both had so much joy recording this 100th episode. It was humbling to see how many of you showed up to watch us live and ask us questions throughout. This episode is now officially our favourite episode of the entire run of the podcast!

We're On YouTube!
Yes, the AGDW Podcast is on...YouTube. Our channel will have some of our episodes in full color video! Also, we'll have some bloopers and possibly other extras down the road. We're still just a podcast, so don't expect too much from us on the YouTube front. We can't guarantee a regular upload schedule, however, we'll do our best to add a little content when we can. We suggest subscribing to the channel because then you can ensure you'll see new videos when they go online. The best part is instead of just listening to us, you can now also see our beautiful faces. For some, a plus. For others...not so much. Regardless, enjoy!

We Have a New Sponsor!
The AGDW Podcast would like to welcome the new sponsor of our podcast, Coya Insurance! We know what you're thinking...a sponsor? So now there will be ads during the podcast?? Before you freak out, let us ease your concerns. We love our fans and would never recommend a brand that we felt wasn't valuable to the people who listened to us. I (Geoff) became a user of Coya long before we ever started the podcast. I chose them for my home insurance and my bike theft insurance. Why? Three simple, yet important factors: low cost, English support, and simplicity. I searched through many insurance carriers in Germany and found Coya was the one that supported expats the best. Everything was in English (the policy, the website, the customer support, etc.) and it was easy to sign up with no red tape. Plus, my home insurance is less than 5 Euro per month! Yes, you heard me right. I pay very little, yet it I'm covered up to 15,000 Euro in damage. We recommend Coya to anyone who is an expat in Germany and in need of home insurance, bike theft insurance, private liability insurance, etc. To learn more click here.

And, just so you know, we were not asked to say anything above by Coya. All of that is purely our opinion and a real recommendation.
